MY JUDGING QUALIFICATIONS

The South African judges' qualifying scheme is run by the Kennel Union of Southern Africa and is briefly explained hereunder.

Before you can take Part One of the judges' exam you have to have been competitively showing dogs for 5 years.

Part One includes 4 exam papers for which you must achieve a score of 80% or higher in each paper.
Paper 1: The Constitution
Paper 2: General Conformation
Paper 3: Judging Etiquette
Paper 4: The breed standard/s for the breed or group you choose

Following this you have to judge a minimum number of dogs in the breed or group you have chosen at open show level. You have to write detailed reports on the first two placements in each class. These reports are submitted to the Kennel Union's judges' department within 3 months of the show and examined. If passed, and once you have judged a sufficient number of dogs at open show level, you may take Part Two of the judges' exam. If you pass Part Two (which is just on the breed standards but much more in depth and including background information not given in the breed standards), you may award CCs in the breeds you have passed.

To be placed on the judges' panel for the breed or group you have chosen, you have to have judged a minimum number of dogs at championship show level.

You may not qualify on more then one group at the same time. You have to complete a group before you move on the the next group.

Our groups are:
Gundogs, Hounds, Herding, Terriers, Toys, Utility and Working.
